Tile Grouts
1) What are tile grouts?
Tile grout is the material to fill tile joints between tiles/stone. It can also be called as joint
Filler.
2) Why do we need Tile joints?
Two tiles are never of the same size, hence when they are laid without proper spacers, the joints are not uniform.
They are 1 mm at one point 7 possibly 2 mm at other point, this creates a bad look. Further from functional point of view it is difficult to clean a very narrow joint. The same joint of it is laid with proper spacing and filled with appropriate joint filling material will look aesthetically good and also easy to maintain.
3) What are the benefits of Tile Grouts?
Traditional grout is predominantly white cement or in some cases pigmented color grouts. This white cement gathers duct & gets stained.
They tend to crack & allow the growth of bacteria, moss & fungus. More over , narrow joints gather dust and are difficult to clean.
So if quality grouts are used with good joint width, they offer following benefits:
» Color fast
» Non-shrinking
» Non-cracking
» Stain free
» Easy to clean & maintain
» No water curing required.
4) What are the types of grouts?
There are two types of tile grouts?
A. Cement based grouts B.Epoxy grouts
Cement based grouts are suitable for filling tile joints for interior applications where not much staining is expected and for external facades. They can be ideally used for ceramic tile, Vitrified tile, Natural stone etc.
Epoxy grouts are high performance, which are color fast, stain proof and Chemical resistant. They contain no pigments and they resist acids, alkalis & corrosives.
Suitable for applications in areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, swimming pools, restaurants, Industrial areas, high traffic areas etc.
